Why this can be a separate problem

Shanghai's official hospital guide shows an online appointment flow that may send an SMS verification code. A separate municipal payment guide says foreign or Chinese numbers can be used to register certain payment apps. These are different systems: payment-app access does not prove that a hospital's appointment tool accepts the same number.

Three official routes to check

1. Hospital hotline: ask whether the department accepts passport registration and whether staff can book or explain an alternative.
2. Hospital international service: check the hospital's official English page or the Shanghai international medical services directory.
3. On-site registration: ask whether the hospital accepts first-time registration at the outpatient desk and what original documents are required.

Protect your identity

Do not borrow another person's identity, publish your passport number or send full medical records to an unverified account. Confirm that the number, account and link belong to the hospital or a government service.

A useful—but service-specific—example

The Shanghai International Travel Healthcare Center publishes email and telephone alternatives for international visitors who do not yet use WeChat. That option belongs to that health-check service; it is not a universal hospital rule.
