Can a foreigner book a Shanghai hospital visit with a passport?
Short answer: a passport is a core document to prepare, but the booking channel and online identity-binding rules vary by hospital.
Non-clinical information: this page explains practical preparation. It does not select a doctor, diagnose a condition or guarantee an appointment.
A practical sequence
- Choose the hospital and department first. Appointment tools ask for both, and the hospital—not YXJ—controls availability.
- Check the hospital's official channel. Shanghai's official guide says most hospitals offer a hotline or online booking, but the exact channel differs.
- Enter your identity exactly as shown in the passport. Confirm which passport number format and name order the hospital accepts.
- Keep the confirmation. Save the date, time, campus, building, department and any registration instructions.
- Bring the original passport. The official Shanghai guide lists a passport among the materials used for registration.
If the online channel does not accept the passport
Do not use another person's identity. Contact the hospital's official hotline or international service desk and ask whether it offers on-site registration or a different official booking route. Requirements can differ by campus and department.

Always recheck the target hospital's current instructions.
Emergency: call 120 or go to an emergency department. Do not wait for a companion-service reply.
